Friends of Miners Memorial Heritage Park
Our group, the Friends of Miners Memorial Heritage Park, was created to promote, maintain, and create Miners Memorial Heritage Park within the mining areas of Ironwood. In July 2010, the City of Ironwood passed a resolution that created the Miners Memorial Heritage Park by the request of the Friends of Miners Memorial Heritage Park.

Remembering
Mike Fauerbach
Mike donated many trees to the MMHP through the first 8 years of the park’s existence. He commented on how windblown parts of the SISU ski course were and wanted to create a sheltered trail. We planted many tiny pines and spruces. There are over 100 trees visible now, some are already 10 feet tall. They are a permanent memorial to Mike, who died doing what he loved best, skiing the SISU Skifest event.
Bruce Currin
Mary Mersereau-Kempf and Bruce and Mary Ringley remembered Bruce by donating to the Miners Memorial Heritage Park.
George D. Skaja
A donation was made in memory of George of Ironwood by the Patrick Skaja family (Pat, Mary Ann, Katie, and Amy)
Edward Alonen
“Beloved Father and Grandfather”
On February 25th, one of our members, Ed Alonen, passed away. Ed had attended meetings, parades, cleanups, and helped chip the Aurora Trail last summer. Ed was a miner in the Newport and Geneva Mines in Ironwood, as well as the White Pine Mine. In addition, he was a World War II veteran. It is sad to lose someone with such a direct connection to the mining history of Ironwood. Condolences go out to his family.
Mark Fitting
Gordon and Betsy Pekuri and Joan Levra donated to the Miners Memorial Heritage Park in honor of Mark.
August Mattson
Gus and Joanne Ricca donated in memory of August, a former miner.
